Why We Started Podscribe

Podscribe began in 2016 with a simple idea: make it easier to discover great podcasts.

We built a podcast player powered by transcription technology that understood what shows were actually about. Turning audio into searchable data unlocked smarter recommendations, deeper insights, and even helped launch a few early shows, including Call Her Daddy.

As the product evolved, so did our perspective.

Transcripts gave us a new, reliable way to look beyond content to see where ads ran and how often, creating the foundation for measuring exposure at scale.

So we went back to the drawing board. We started applying our transcription tech to the business side of podcasting, starting with airchecks to help advertisers verify where their ads actually ran. 

Placement verification led to impression verification. And soon after, a much larger problem became clear: podcast advertising was exploding, but measurement and transparency were falling behind.

When that gap emerged in the industry, we stepped in.

Founded in 2016 by Pete Birsinger (CEO), Podscribe began as a focused engineering project dedicated to solving the complexities of the audio space. As the platform evolved, Petr Ryabinin (Head of Engineering) joined as a co-founder to lead our technical vision, helping scale Podscribe into the industry’s leading independent measurement provider. Today, our team spans Austin, New York, and beyond, blending deep technical expertise with a shared commitment to bringing clarity and honesty to the audio ecosystem.
